We want to see a continuous facility. Bits and bobs here and there are of no interest. It might encourage cycling, but it also puts cyclists, pedestrians and motorists in danger when a facility gives up in certain sections.
Through most of the route we believe it is possible to create a segregated path for cyclist on both sides of the road. We do not feel that this route is suitable for a shared pedestrian/cycle path.
In a short section of Fishbourne and at the roundabout at Southbourne, an alternative approach is necessary. Here the buildings are close and there is not the space for a segregated path. Instead a village scene is required. Speeds need to be controlled to 20mph so that cyclists can join the main carriageway with some degree of safety. The road surface will need to be adapted to influence safe driving.
